Snobbing Yourself Out of Growth
Stop Snobbing Yourself Out of the Life You Say You Want
Let me make a very acute observation
Some of us are not stuck because we don’t know what to do.
We are stuck because we keep rejecting the very things we asked for.
You say you want growth.
You say you want more money, more peace, more confidence, more expansion.
Then the opportunity shows up, a coach, a programme, a tool, a path, a conversation… and suddenly you start picking it apart.
“It’s too expensive.”
“I’m not sure it’s right.”
“I need to think about it.”
“I’ll do it later.”
No.
Let’s call it what it is.
You are snobbing yourself out of your next level.
Not because you’re above it…
But because you’re not yet available for what it requires of you.
Your brain is not protecting comfort, it’s protecting the familiar
Let’s clean something up, because this matters.
Comfort is not the enemy. Comfort is safety. Comfort is where your nervous system feels grounded, held, and powerful.
We are not here to leave comfort behind.
We are here to expand what comfort includes.
What your brain actually resists is the unfamiliar.
Neuroscience shows us that the amygdala responds to uncertainty the same way it responds to threat. So when something new shows up, even if it’s exactly what you asked for, your brain flags it.
Not because it’s wrong.
Because it’s new.
So that hesitation you feel?
That overthinking?
That “something feels off”?
Most of the time, that’s not misalignment.
That’s unfamiliarity.
You don’t reject what you don’t want, you reject what you’re not ready to hold
Here’s something crucial people avoid.
You are not rejecting the thing.
You are rejecting the version of you that would exist if it worked.
Because if it works…
You expand.
You become visible.
You step into more responsibility, more power, more self-leadership.
And if that version of you does not yet fit in your comfort zone… you will resist it.
So instead of allowing yourself to grow into it, you push it away.
You call it discernment.
You call it timing.
You call it logic.
But underneath it?
Fear of becoming.
The money story keeps you looping
Let’s go straight to the one that shows up the most.
“I can’t afford it.”
Now yes, there are real financial constraints, let’s not ignore that.
But for many people, this is not just about numbers. This is about identity.
Studies in behavioural psychology show that scarcity thinking narrows your cognitive capacity. When your brain is in “not enough”, it focuses on immediate survival and loses access to long-term, opportunity-based thinking.
So when you say, “I don’t have the money,” your brain reinforces that reality.
And here’s the loop:
You don’t have the money because your thinking hasn’t expanded.
Your thinking hasn’t expanded because you’re not stepping into the things that would shift it.
You are waiting to feel ready… before you allow yourself to become ready.
That’s the trap.
Rejection becomes your pattern
Every time you push away something that could move you forward, you reinforce a way of being.
You become someone who hesitates.
Someone who second-guesses.
Someone who delays.
And over time, that becomes your identity.
So life reflects it back.
More missed opportunities.
More waiting.
More “almost”.
And then you say, “Life is hard.”
But life is not closing on you.
You are closing on life.
Expansion is not about leaving comfort, it’s about upgrading it
Let’s ground this.
When you say yes to something that stretches you, you are not stepping into a life of discomfort.
You are stepping into something that hasn’t become comfortable yet.
Your identity is adjusting.
Your nervous system is recalibrating.
Your patterns are shifting.
And then, very quickly, what once felt unfamiliar… becomes natural.
Becomes embodied.
Becomes safe.
Becomes your new normal.
Your new comfort.
Bigger. Stronger. More aligned.
Life responds when you decide
There is a moment where everything changes.
Not when you feel ready.
Not when it’s perfect.
When you decide.
Research on goal-directed behaviour shows that once a decision is made, your brain begins filtering for opportunities that match that decision. Your focus sharpens, your awareness shifts, your actions follow.
It’s not magic.
But it is powerful.
Because you stop sitting on the fence, and you start moving.
And life meets movement.
So let’s bring it back to you
Where are you snobbing yourself out of your own growth?
Where are you rejecting something… not because it’s wrong… but because it doesn’t feel familiar yet?
Where are you using logic to cover fear?
And what would happen if you allowed yourself to expand your comfort… instead of protecting your limitations?
Because the life you want is not outside of you.
It’s just outside of what currently feels normal.
And the moment you stop rejecting it…
You give yourself permission to receive it.
